These styles are Unicode characters, so they keep their look when you paste them. Only English letters (A–Z) and numbers are converted. These styles do not work on Hindi (Devanagari) text.
How to use the Discord font generator
- Type your name or message in the box above.
- Open the Discord tab for ready-made Discord bold, italic, underline, strikethrough and spoiler text, or try Fancy, Cursive and Bold for name styles.
- Tap Copy and paste it into Discord: your display name, server nickname, About Me, custom status or a message.
The fancy Discord fonts here are made from Unicode characters, not real fonts. That is why they keep their look when you paste them into Discord, even though Discord has no font menu.
How to change Discord font
Many people search how to change Discord font, but Discord does not let you pick a new font family for the whole app. Here is what you can change:
- Text size: open User Settings (the gear icon), go to Appearance and move the Chat Font Scaling slider.
- How your name and messages look to others: use a Discord font changer like this one. Copy a style and paste it in, and everyone sees it.
- Formatting in messages: use Discord markdown, like
**bold**or~~strikethrough~~, shown in the table below.
Change the font of your Discord display name
- Make your name in the generator above and tap Copy.
- In Discord, open User Settings → Profiles (on mobile: tap your avatar, then Edit Profile).
- Paste it into Display Name and save.
For a name in just one server, right-click (or long-press) the server name, choose Edit Per-server Profile and paste it into Server Nickname.
Note: your unique username (the @handle) only allows lowercase letters, numbers, dots and underscores, so fancy fonts won't work there. Use your display name instead.
How to bold text in Discord
Here is how to bold text in Discord in a message. Put two asterisks on each side of your words:
**this is bold** → this is bold
- Desktop: select your text and click the B button in the small toolbar that pops up.
- Phone: type the asterisks yourself. It works the same in the Discord app on Android and iPhone.
- Bold in your name: markdown doesn't work in names, so copy the Bold or Sans bold style from the generator instead. The bold text generator has more bold styles.
Discord text formatting cheat sheet
Discord has its own formatting for messages. Type these and Discord changes the look when you send:
| Style | Type this in Discord |
|---|---|
| Bold | **text** |
| Italic | *text* or _text_ |
| Bold italic | ***text*** |
| Underline | __text__ |
| Strikethrough | ~~text~~ |
| Spoiler | ||text|| |
| Inline code | `text` |
| Code block | ```text``` |
| Big header | # text |
| Medium header | ## text |
| Small header | ### text |
| Small grey text | -# text |
| Quote | > text |
| List | - text |
You can mix them, for example ***__bold italic underline__***. For crossed-out text that also works outside messages, see the strikethrough text generator.

Where fancy fonts work on Discord
- Display name and server nickname: yes, the most popular place.
- About Me and custom status: yes.
- Messages: yes, and you can add markdown on top.
- Server name, role names and channel names: usually yes, if you have permission to edit them.
- Username (@handle): no, only plain lowercase letters, numbers, dots and underscores.
Some servers use moderation bots that change nicknames with unusual characters. If your name keeps getting reset, try a simpler style like Bold. If friends see empty boxes, their device is missing that style.
Discord fonts for gamers
Gaming servers love styles like Fraktur, Double-struck and Small caps. Combine them with symbols such as ⚔ or ☠ for a clan tag. For more ideas, read our guide to the best fonts for gaming usernames.
Frequently asked questions
What font does Discord use?
Discord's app uses its own font called gg sans for most text. You can't change it, but you can make your name and messages look different by pasting fancy Unicode fonts from this page.
What is a Discord font generator?
A Discord font generator turns normal text into fancy styles, such as bold, cursive, gothic and small caps, made from Unicode characters. You copy the result and paste it into your Discord display name, server nickname, About Me or messages.
How do I change my Discord font?
Discord does not let you choose a different font family for all text. You can change the text size in User Settings, Appearance, Chat Font Scaling. To make your own name or messages look different, copy a fancy font from this Discord font changer and paste it in.
How do you bold text in Discord?
Put two asterisks on each side of your words: **like this**. On the desktop app you can also select the text and click the B button in the small toolbar that appears.
Can I use fancy fonts in my Discord username?
Not in your unique username (the @handle). It only allows lowercase letters, numbers, dots and underscores. You can use fancy fonts in your display name, server nickname, About Me, custom status and messages.
Where can I get Discord font symbols?
Use the symbols section on this page, or the full cool symbols page on FilesSnap. Tap a symbol to copy it, then paste it into your name, channel names or server name.
Why do some Discord fonts show as boxes?
Some phones and computers don't have every Unicode character. If a style shows empty boxes for your friends, switch to a common style such as Bold or Sans bold.
Do Discord fonts work on mobile?
Yes. Copy a style on your phone and paste it in the Discord app on Android or iPhone. Markdown like **bold** and ~~strikethrough~~ also works in the mobile app.
Is this Discord font changer free?
